With monsoon playing truant, the Andhra Pradesh government is conducting special 'poojas' in temples across the state to propitiate rain gods.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated a three-day 'Ashottara Satakundatmaka Maha Varuna Yagam' (a special worship of Lord Varuna) here this morning.
The 'Yagam' is being organised by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the governing body of the Tirupati Venkateswara temple.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy hoped that the 'Yagam' would result in copious rainfall and overall prosperity of the state and the country.
The 'Yagam' is being conducted by 150 vedic pundits from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka at 108 'homa kundam', TTD Chairman D K Adikesavulu Naidu told reporters.
The TTD conducted a similar puja in Hyderabad last year too after which heavy rainfall was recorded in the city and state.
The state government is organising special prayers in churches and mosques seeking good rains.
