Two arrested ULFA cadres were given a 14-day police remand after they were produced before a local magistrate in Itanagar on Saturday.

Deepak Bhuyan, 28, and Ghanakanta Saikia, 30, of Majuli in Assam were arrested at a petrol pump yesterday, Superintendent of Police Hibu Tamang told PTI.
They had allegedly telephoned a petrol pump owner to demand a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. Their telephone calls were tracked and plainclothes policemen were posted at the petrol depot along the NH-52 at Bihupuria in Assam.
As they were about to collect two leather bags, the police team led by Banderdewa police station OC N Sora overpowered them with the active cooperation of Assam police, the SP said.
Meanwhile, the district administration has sought cooperation from locals to nab miscreants who have infiltrated into the capital using legal or illegal temporary Inner Line Permits and are trying to extort money from businessmen.
