The resonant sound of vuvulzelas along with the beats of drums — Soccer City had descended at the official residence of the High Commissioner for South Africa in Vasant Kunj on Friday.

The resonant sound of vuvulzelas along with the beats of drums — Soccer City had descended at the official residence of the High Commissioner for South Africa in Vasant Kunj on Friday. And the crowd roared ‘Bafana bafana’ in unison as the large screen showed President Jacob Zuma declaring the FIFA World Cup officially open. “The time for Africa has come,” said Zuma in Johannesburg. The roar broke decibels in Delhi.

But even before the ball started rolling in South Africa, Rev Harris Mojeka, the High Commissioner for SA, along with wife Phumla, set the tone here. Beer flowed as ESPN anchor Gautam Bhimani upped the excitement teasing the Dutch and French fans. Indian Ocean kept the tempo high and spirited.
