The 11 people were charged with murdering Aparna Bag, a 38-year-old housewife, when she tried to prevent them from grabbing land in Krishnaganj in Nadia district.

On November 23 2015, Bag was shot while trying to stop the men from trying to gain control of her field. Two others were also shot in the melee but survived the attack.

One of the accused in the case is still absconding, according to the police.

The main accused was Lankeshwar Ghosh, who claimed to be a local Trinamool leader, the police said. Nadia district Trinamool leaders, however, denied the claim.
