BANARAS HINDU University added another feather in its cap as it became India’s first university to have online access to ‘Web of Science and Journal Citation Report’ facility.
Now the researchers of BHU can track research activities of colleagues and competitors, discover who is citing their research and how it is being used to support current research, follow the history of an idea or a method from its first communication to the present day and find relevant articles on topics or subjects that are difficult to express with a few key words.
Addressing the inaugural function of a training programme on ‘On-line Access to Web of Science and Journal Citation Report’ at UGC-Academic Staff College here today, Padma Shree awardee and Executive Council member of BHU, Prof. AK Banerjee said it was a great facility and scholars should use it for their research activities.
Prof Banerjee exhorted the scholars and faculty members of BHU to spare more time for Central Library as it was the department of all other departments.
Rector of BHU, Prof S Lele delivered the keynote address and said this facility was a milestone in library services.
Presiding over the function, BHU vice-chancellor, Prof Panjab Singh exhorted the teaching fraternity to ensure greater participation in world-class research activities. He promised to extend all sorts of facilities for academic activities.
Representative of Informatics (India) (which has provided this facility to BHU), Ajay Mehrotra dwelt upon ‘Web of Science’ and said that the software provided various facilities as interface modifications, citation alerting, analysis of research results and enhanced personalisation features.
“It has the ability to do a topic search within a set of search results; one click access from the authors of a paper to other papers by the same author, full text access from summary display and enhanced cited reference display”, he added.
Professor-In-Charge of Central Library, Prof. RS Dubey welcomed the guests and said that efforts were to automize around 8 lakh books and digitize several thousand manuscripts of Central Library. Deputy Librarian, BN Singh proposed vote of thanks.
