Following the Supreme Court's dismissal of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal's review petition, the BJP on Saturday demanded that the government must send its advice on his mercy plea immediately to the President.

"There has been enough scandal with the country's internal security. There should be no delay by the government in sending its advice to the President about Afzal's mercy petition," party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

He also asserted that the country's internal security must not be "mortgaged" to "vote bank politics" of UP, implying that the UPA Government may delay sending its opinion to the President to please the Muslim electorate in the state where Assembly elections are due in a few months.
