Forty-two people were hospitalised with malaria in civic hospitals between Wednesday and Thursday morning. There have been four malaria deaths this month in Mumbai. Parel (F-South), Worli (G-South), Bandra, Khar and Santacruz west (H-West) and Kurla (L) are among the wards that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified as being more prone to malaria.

“The BMC surveillance officers in every ward office will go door-to-door and screen patients with high fever for malaria,” said Dr Kishore Hargoli, civic officer in charge of malaria control.

“The surveillance officers then go back after 15 days and check the patients again for malaria symptoms, as that is how long it takes for the parasite to fully mature and start affecting a person,” Hargoli added.
