US President George W Bush continues to sink at opinion polls with the latest one showing him at a new all-time low of 31 per cent approval rating and a record disapproval of 65 per cent.
The falling numbers for the President has Republican leaders rattled as the Congress heads to an off-year election this November with Democrats aggressively pursuing a strategy of taking back control of the legislature.
Some senior Republican leaders have started seriously questioning some of the policy moves of the administration, including the nomination of Air Force General Michael Hayden as the next Head of the Central Intelligence Committee (CIA).
The latest poll of USA Today/Gallup is troublesome to the Republican party because it is showing a clear erosion of support from within the Conservative camp and among Republicans.
Only 52 per cent of the Conservatives and 68 per cent of Republicans are approving of the way the President is going about his job. This is a record low for both groups. Moderates give Bush an approval rating of 28 per cent and liberals by just seven per cent.
