City couple, Pune woman complain of swine flu-like symptoms

A couple walked into Kasturba Hospital in Parel on Saturday claiming they feared that they were suffering from swine flu.

The 31-year-old man and his 29-year-old wife said they had been arrived from Hyderabad a few days ago and may have contracted H1-N1 virus there.

They were admitted to the hospital and their throat swab samples sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune.

In Pune, a 29-year-old woman, who returned from England in May, got herself admitted to Naidu Hospital for swine flu-like symptoms.

The state health officials said the woman complained of incessant coughing, fever and dysentery after nearly a month of returning to India.

“Her throat swab samples have been collected and sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing. Reports are expected on Monday,” said Dr Uddhav Gawande, deputy director, state health services.

No other swine flu suspects were quarantined on Saturday.

Altogether 12,167 fliers were screened at Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur airports in the past 24 hours, he added.
