CM Akhilesh, wife Dimple stuck in lift for over 20 mins, 3 suspended

Three engineers were suspended for negligence on Friday after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav were stuck in a lift at the Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow for more than 20 minutes.

Three engineers were suspended for negligence on Friday after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav were stuck in a lift at the Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow for more than 20 minutes.

“We are going to order an inquiry into the matter to find out as to what exactly happened and take action accordingly,” said principal secretary (home) Devashish Panda. “Prima facie it seems to have been a case of a technical snag,” he added.

After attending a function at the Vidhan Bhawan, Akhilesh and Dimple -- an MP from Kannauj -- took a lift to reach the ground floor. However, the lift stopped on the first floor and its doors did not open. While the liftman couldn’t open the doors, security guards standing outside forced them open with an iron rod after being alerted about the technical failure.

The chief minister’s personal security officer was also with the couple inside the lift.
