College students to get lessons on anti-ragging laws, human rights

To spread awareness about human rights among students, especially girls, the district legal services authority (DLSA) will hold workshops in various colleges under its legal literacy programme.

To spread awareness about human rights among students, especially girls, the district legal services authority (DLSA) will hold workshops in various colleges under its legal literacy programme.

As a large number of young students have started attending classes with the beginning of the new academic session, the workshops will also include anti-ragging lessons, said DLSA secretary justice Narinder Kaur.

She said the authority will assist college staff in forming legal literacy clubs. "Our staff will visit the colleges from time to time and help the cause," she said, adding that a workshop will be held on Friday in all the government girls' colleges in the district.

DLSA is carrying out similar awareness programmes in government schools as well. Earlier, DLSA had asked school principals and education officers to form legal literacy clubs. The programme covered around 115 government schools in Gurgaon.

"We run such programmes to enable the students learn the basics of the law," said Kaur.

The programme is being run as per guidelines issued by the national legal services authority and the Haryana state legal services authority.
