The BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Congress of launching a smear campaign against him and making his life hell.
“The Congress has always been indulging in mudslinging against me. They have made my life hell. But it was my belief in God and people’s blessings which always pulled me through,” the Gujarat chief minister said.
Modi was speaking at a BJP rally in Pune.
Taking on Union minister Kapil Sibal’s remark that Modi is always shy of giving an answer, he said, “The Congress is in power at the Centre and Manmohan Singh is the Prime Minister but I am the one who is always questioned. Answers are always sought from me. Even people in the media cannot get answers from the Congress netas. The party leaders are only good at the blame game.”
Modi said BJP model of governance has been proved to be the best. “When Jan Sangh’s Morarji Desai and BJP’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee were in power, prices of commodities were in check. Every time the Congress comes to power, inflation goes out of control. The country has seen the consequences of letting the Congress rule,” he said.
He asked the poll pundits and economic analysts to set certain parameters to check the performance of governments under the Congress and the BJP. “If such a test is done, people will have no doubt in voting for the BJP.”
