Convicted doctor dies under mysterious circumstances

A Karnal-based doctor Brij Sharma, convicted in a prenatal sex determination test case, died under mysterious circumstances at his clinic on today evening.

A Karnal-based doctor Dr Brij Sharma, convicted in a prenatal sex determination test case, died under mysterious circumstances at his clinic on Saturday evening.

Dr Sharma had recently secured bail in a case for which he was sentenced to three years imprisonment on August 18. He was convicted by a Karnal court for illegally conducting prenatal sex determination test on a woman.

The station house officer (SHO) of Civil Lines police station Ram Chander confirmed to HT that Dr Sharma died in the clinic.

The SHO said that it seemed that the deceased had consumed excess liquor, but the exact cause of death would be determined after a postmortem is conducted on Sunday.
