Faiz Alam (19), a Class 11 student of Guru Govind Singh Sports College, reportedly did not know how to swim.

His body was found outside the pool with an injury mark on the forehead on Wednesday.

The victim’s mother Saheen Bano had alleged that her son was killed because he tried to stop some senior colleagues from ragging juniors.

Though the autopsy report confirmed drowning as the cause of death, investigators are exploring all possibilities. “There is a possibility that the boy could have been pushed in the pool,” said a police officer.

“There are 92 students in class 11. Of them 45 were absent from the academic class on Wednesday,” DIG Rajeev Krishna said. “We will question all the absentees.”

The college staff has denied any reports of ragging.
