In a press release, Dr Ashish Mital, secretary, said this sentence has been given after undermining all principles of justice. To begin with, the occupation forces in Iraq refused to permit trial by an independent court, three counsels of Saddam were shot dead under mysterious circumstances, one judge was changed after he admitted a claim of four persons that though their name figured in the list of those allegedly killed by Saddam, they were alive. Later they were forced to withdraw their statement.

He said the whole trial has been stage-managed and the verdict is a farce enacted to justify the armed occupation in Iraq to American people. He said CPI (ML) New Democracy demands that the Indian government should ask for withdrawal of US and UK troops from Iraqi soil and build pressure on the US to set aside this verdict. Protest programmes would be organised by the party during this week.
