ROLE OF cultural centres across the country was discussed in a meeting organised by Bharat Vikas Parishad, Prayag. It was presided over by Bhagwan Shanker, director of North Central Zone Cultural Centre.
Speaking on the topic of ‘Role of cultural centres in preservation and promotion of Indian culture’, he said that earlier, the proper presentation of the cultural programmes of various states was confined to few auditoriums of big cities.
“Various streams of art were losing their significance and in many cases they were facing extinction due to lack of promotional activities. Thus cultural centres took the initiative to revive the art and put it before the citizens.
The true spirit of unity in diversity was witnessed at these centres where artistes from various states converged for performances and presentations,” he added.
“These centres have been kept away from any kind of political interference so that they could work freely. New artistes are being promoted through ‘Bal Pratibha Vikas Shivir’ and ‘Guru Shishya parampara’ has been started to revive the extinct art forms.
