MORE THAN half a dozen masked dacoits raided the house of city lawyer Laxmi Narayan Shukla late Thursday night in Srinagar area under the Gangaghat police circle station. The dacoits decamped with Rs two lakh in cash and valuables and also injured the lawyer and his family when the latter resisted.
The dacoits left after locking the victims in the house. The neighbours later rescued the Shukla family.
The miscreants broke into the house from the terrace and held the advocate’s daughter Priyanka at gunpoint. They, then, took other family members ‘hostage’ and collected jewellery from them.
After locking the Shukla family in a room, the dacoits ransacked the house and collected cash and other valuables from the house. The dacoits also beat up the victims.
The Gangaghat SO conducted initial investigations and a dog squad was also pressed into service. The dacoits were still to be traced.
Two boys caught for theft bid
TWO BOYS attempting to break into the house of a lawyer at Vikas Nagar under Kalyanpur police station area were caught by neighbours on Friday. However, another one named Golu managed to flee from the spot. Later the locals after beating up the boys handed them over to the police.
Guddu (10) and Chotu (11), both residents of Vinayakpur were caught while trying to break the locks of the house of an advocate known as Tomar advocate who had gone out of station.
After thrashing the boys the residents handed over the boy to Kalyanpur police, which later sent them to UHM hospital for medical examination.
The police have registered a case of theft against the boys under section 380, 411 and 454 of the IPC.
