Delhi HC asks Centre to respond to activist's plea on lookout notice

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response from the Centre on the plea of Greenpeace activist Priya Pillai, who was stopped from boarding a flight to London earlier this month, seeking to quash the ‘look out circular’ issued against her.

The HC also issued notices to Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Immigration Department on Pillai’s plea to remove her name from any database containing names of individuals not allowed to leave the country.

Pillai, a senior campaigner for Greenpeace India, questioned the look out circular issued in her name claiming that she does not have any criminal conviction against her nor has she ever evaded arrest or trial. She claimed that despite requests made to the authorities, copy of the look out circular has not been supplied to her.

The 37-year-old claimed that she had a valid business visa to travel to the United Kingdom but Delhi airport officials stamped 'offload' on her passport. She later addressed the British parliamentarians via video conferencing.

The HC has posted the matter for further hearing on February 11.
