Delhi Police on Friday denied allegations of illegal detention and torture of nine persons in connection with the Rahul Mahajan case and said some persons present at the time of commission of offence were called for interrogation under due process of law.
In its reply to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), after it sought a report from Delhi Police in the matter, the force said no person was detained illegally or tortured, an NHRC spokesman said.
However, the report said nine persons, out of which one was arrested and later let off on bail, were "called to the police station on various occasions as it was vital to question them since they were present at the 7, Safdarjung Road bungalow, the site of the incident, at the time of commission of offence."
Following a complaint to it by the relatives of the nine persons working at the official residence of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, the NHRC had on Thursday sought a report from Delhi Police.
The complaint had alleged that Anil Singh, a driver of the Mahajans, and eight others were forcibly picked up from the late BJP leader's residence on the morning of June two and illegally detained in the police station.

The spokesman said the full Commission will examine the report on Monday.
