“All speculation in the media about my contesting the elections is both baseless and meaningless,” Singh said over phone.

The Congress leader said the decision of not contesting the polls was in accordance with his statement before the 2003 state Assembly elections. Singh had then said that he will not contest elections for 10 years if the Congress loses the Assembly polls.

Singh, who did not contest the last Assembly elections held in November 2008, also said there was no pressure on him to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
