Four of them — a woman and her daughters — were murdered on Friday night, their throats slashed. Rukhsana (40), Shama (18), Aliya (16) and Amreen (1) were attacked with sharp weapons in their home at Ram Park Extension. The assailants then waited for Rukhsana's husband Nawab Ahmed to turn up and attacked him.

Ahmed, a local transporter, is fighting for life in hospital with injuries on the throat, head and back. Police suspect the attacks are an act of revenge for the murder of 18-year-old Mohammed Asif in Sahibabad on August 13 last year.

Asif had a dispute with Ahmed's younger brother Sonu over Rs 200 that he took as loan. He was allegedly stabbed to death by Ahmed and his brothers.

"An FIR was lodged against Ahmed and his brothers. The dispute turned into rivalry between the two families," said a police official. Ahmed got bail in the case in December. Ahmed's relatives are blaming five members of Asif's family, including his father and brother, for Friday’s murders. Police have detained two people.
