With three members of the family already arrested and two more under the scanner of the Delhi Police crime branch, Phulva Devi, Asharam’s wife, alleged a deep conspiracy by senior officials of Shastri Bhawan.
The family of 15, currently living in the ministry provided flat in South Delhi’s Narouji Nagar, alleged that police officials had detained the men on Wednesday contrary to the police statement.
“The crime branch raided our house on Wednesday 1:30 am and didn’t find any papers, money or documents. They then took Asharam, Lalta Prakash, Rakesh Kumar and Durga Prasad from the house,” said Phulva Devi.
The family claims have been contradictory to the crime branch, which had said that only three members of the family were arrested while getting inside the car, outside Shashtri Bhavan. The crime branch officials however denied all such allegations.
According to family members, while they had been living under severe poverty, the condition has worsened since the men’s arrest. “With four members already under police detention and no one else there to provide ration, suicide seems to be the only option,” Mukesh Kumar, Asharam’s son, said.
