A man “punished” his 17-year-old daughter for falling in love with a person from a rival community by pouring acid on her and throwing her into a canal on Tuesday. The girl, Gulista, who was rescued and admitted to a district hospital by a passerby, though initially had blamed her father for her condition, in a statement later, absolved him of the crime.
On the basis of Gulista’s charges, her father Abrar was arrested and he admitted to the crime. “He accepted his crime without remorse,” said SSP Neelesh Kumar.
Gulista is a resident of Mustafabad Charora, Bulandshahar. Brought to the hospital with over 70 per cent burns, her condition is critical. She had pleaded to the cops to seek stern punishment for her father, but later in a statement to the city magistrate said, “I was upset hence poured acid on myself to end my life.”
