Spaniard David Ferrer made a dazzling start to his French Open campaign with a 6-3 6-3 6-1 first-round victory over Finn Jarkko Nieminen on Sunday.

The seventh-seeded Ferrer flashed forehand winners around Court Philippe Chatrier to seal the win in just 85 minutes.

Ferrer, who has reached the quarter-finals twice at Roland Garros, will face either France's Julien Benneteau or Portuguese Rui Machado in the second round.
