The Election Commission directs all district returning officers to file FIR against candidates trying to lure the voters.
The Election Commission has directed all district returning officers to file FIR against candidates or anybody trying to lure the voters.
Joint chief electoral officer Kamini Ratan Chauhan told newspersons in Lucknow on Sunday that commission had received complaints about some candidates and their supporters resorting to malpractices to win votes.
She said the district administration had been asked to keep vigil on the campaigning. She said FIR could be filed under section 171 A, 171 B and 171 E.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and two other members of the Election Commission Navin B Chawal and Dr SY Qureshi would be visiting Barabanki on Monday to review election preparation for the fourth phase polling on April 23.
The commission would take stock of the situation in Khiri, Sitapur, Barabanki, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Basti, Siddharth Nagar and Sant Kabir Nagar. All DMs, SPs, DIG and divisional commissioner would attend the meeting.
