Finance Minister nod to Chaudhuri as new SBI head

The finance ministry has cleared the way for Pratip Chaudhuri to head India's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI). Chaudhuri is currently the deputy managing director in charge of international banking.

The finance ministry has cleared the way for Pratip Chaudhuri to head India's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI). Chaudhuri is currently the deputy managing director in charge of international banking.

While the bank did not conform the development, a source said that Chaudhuri might receive an official confirmation from the government by the end of this week.

The seat of the chairman had fallen vacant last month after OP Bhatt retired from the post on March 31. Managing director R Sridharan has been officiating as the chairman.
