First 24-hour Urdu radio channel launched

The channel, Falak, to be available on the Worldspace satellite radio network, is India's first exclusive Urdu station.

India's first 24-hour Urdu radio channel Falak was launched today to bring to listeners the vast repertoire of rich literature in the language.

The channel, which will be available on the Worldspace satellite radio network, aims to capture the nuances of Urdu in its various forms like music, poetry, mushairas, live recordings and interviews, a release said here.

"We are delighted to launch the country's first exclusive Urdu station and look forward to celebrating the mystery and beauty of the language of a bygone era with listeners across the country," said Shishir Lall, the managing director of Worldspace India.
