He was speaking at a programme organised by the Asma Hussain Institute of Fashion Technology to raise awareness of schemes run by the UP Minorities Finance and Development Corporation.

Girls from the weaker section of the society would be enrolled in the institute of fashion technology for training, he added.

The Minorities Welfare Department would allot two batches of 25 girls to the institute for training in crafts and fashion technology, he said.

Qureshi appreciated the initiative taken by the institute in imparting training to girls and making them self-reliant.Institute chairperson Asma Hussain said besides training students, the institute had launched an entreprenuership development programme.

“The institute guides those who wish to start their own venture,” she said. “The fashion industry now holds the second position in the country and continues to grow,” Asma said.

“Six million people are associated with the fashion industry which contributes 24 percent to the GDP. Now, multinational companies have set their sights on the industry and are opening outlets in the country,” she said.

Agriculture production commissioner Anis Ansari said two crore jobs would be available in the United States and Europe in future.

“Western companies will hire trained personnel from India and other Asian countries. Students should focus on employment-oriented courses,” he said.
