Foreign couple attacked in Thekkady

In a bizarre incident, a foreign tourist couple has been attacked with a knife by a local youth at the famous Periyar wildlife sanctuary in Thekkady (Kerala).

Santhosh (30), in an inebriated condition, attacked Swedish national Jan Coaster and his wife Eva at the boat-landing centre on Saturday, police said today.

Both of them were rushed to a private hosptial at Kochi after doctors at a nearby hospital took out the knife, which pierced through Eva's face below her right eye, they said.

Jan suffered injuries on his neck and hands, they added.

The accused has been arrested.
