Four held for cattle smuggling

The police on Friday rescued 24 cattle and arrested four smugglers in two different cases in Udhampur and Kud.

The police on Friday rescued 24 cattle and arrested four smugglers in two different cases in Udhampur and Kud.

As per reports, a party from Udhampur police station led by SHO inspector Mahesh Sharma laid a surprise 'naka' near MH Chowk in the wee hours. The police intercepted a truck (JK02V-6164) and rescued 15 animals.

The accused identified as driver Farooq Ahmed, son of Abdul Aziz Malik, a resident of Chambalbal, Banihal, and Abdul Rashid, son of Mohd Shafi, a resident of Anger, Banihal, were arrested on the spot and the vehicle was impounded.

Reports added that similarly at Kud, police laid a surprise 'naka' at Pancharu Morh-Sanasar Road and intercepted a vehicle (JK02W-5171) and rescued nine bovine animals. The police arrested two smugglers, identified as Mohd Nazim, son of Kala Khan, a resident of Kafi Patan, Reasi, and Mohd Farooq, son of Abdul Aziz, a resident of Talab Tillo, Jammu, on the spot and impounded their vehicle.

The police have booked all the four accused under Section 188/RPC and Section 3 of the PCA Act.
