The high-altitude areas of Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall, while the plains were lashed by incessant rains for the third day on Monday, resulting in lowering the temperature of the region.
The upper reaches, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and holy cave shrine of Armarnath witnessed a fresh snowfall this morning, official said.
"Though the snowfall was mild, it was accompained with heavy rainfall which also lashed at plain areas for the third day today, resulting in a sharp increase in the water level of rivers and other water bodies.
However, water level was monitored of Jhelum river was still several feet below the danger mark and there was no immediate threat of floods, the officials said.
He said, "The water level in river Jhelum at Sangam in south Kashmir was 14.25 feet-- 7 feet below the danger point; while it was recorded at 12.5 feet-- 4.5 feet below the danger point-- at Ram Munshi Bagh here."
"Due to rainfall, the maximum temperature in the Valley has dipped four degrees below normal, while the minimum was recorded at 6.4 degree Celsius -- one degree below its normal," a MET office said.
