According to data, there has been a consistent rise in the quantum of drugs and liquor being seized every year. In 2011, 4.30 kg ganja was seized, which increased to 7.656 kg in 2012 and 155.65 kg in 2013. A similar increase in the amount of seizures can be seen in other drugs like charas, smack and poppy husk.

"These cases refer to recoveries when either the person has more bottles than specified amount, or has smuggled them from outside and is found selling them or is a minor", said a police official.

Experts claim it has become fashionable among a section of youth to use drugs. "Drugs are being commonly used by youngsters nowadays. The poorly-lit parks and farmhouses have become favourite venues for rave parties. Drug trade is thriving in the city," said Shubhra Puri of NGO Gurgaon First.
