Both recommendations were made by the collegium, or panel, of top Supreme Court judges that selects apex court judges. An impeachment motion against Dinakaran for alleged land grabbing and corruption, is pending in the Rajya Sabha.

The collegium recommended Prasad’s name on November 27, along with that of Bombay High Court chief justice Swatanter Kumar.

“A representation has been received against Justice Prasad. Till doubts are cleared, the appointment will not be possible,” said a source. Prasad’s office did not comment.
