HEAVY SMOKE in Vishwas Khand area on Saturday night made residents gasp for breath and those with asthma had to leave their homes and rush to other places.
According to residents, smoke started at around 7 pm and gradually surrounded their homes and by 9 pm the entire locality of roughly 5000 population was enveloped with heavy smoke.
The smoke was coming from near the boundary of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (Accessories Division) on Faizabad road.
“It is the second consecutive day of smoke that we are compelled to live with. I do not know what it is but it has caused breathing problem to all residents of the locality,” said RP Shukla, a resident of the area.
Shukla had to shift his 15-day-old grandchild to a relative’s place in wake of the heavy smoke filling up his house.
Roshan Lal Paal, Pyrelal, Ramlal and Bansi had to be rushed to nearby clinics when they started vomiting and complained of gasping for breath.
Another resident, Mohd Salim Sidduqui, said, “The entire family is locked inside as they can not stay out at night but living inside the rooms is hell.”
Smoke had entered the houses while on the streets it had caused fog like situation as even headlamps of vehicles were not visible clearly. Drivers pressed horns at every turning to avoid accidents. Pedestrians walked with their mouth and nose covered with cloth.

{{/usCountry}}Local doctor RK Srivastava, also a resident of the locality said heavy smoke was “causing problems to us”. “If it were just dry leaves smoke should not have sustained this long.”
When contacted, a senior HAL officer, said: “There might have been some fire in heaps of dry leaves and the smoke may be due to improper burning of them.
However, there was no possibility of any chemicals or hazardous material burning as all that we get as waste are metal scrap and for that we have a proper disposal yard. We are sending fire tenders to end any smoke that was emanating. We do not take such things lightly or in negligent manner.”
