Stakes are high as Vidhan Sabha begins debating Motion of Thanks to governor for his address before joint sitting of two Houses of state legislature in Lucknow on Wednesday.
As Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is likely to club trust vote with voting on Motion of Thanks to Governor for his address all eyes would be set on debate and subsequent voting in the House. As per programme voting on motion may take place on Thursday. A final decision would be taken only at the business advisory committee’s meeting on Wednesday.
Much significance is being attached to the unfolding developments. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has convened a meeting of the Samajwadi Party Legislature Party on Wednesday morning to give final shape to his strategy. The Opposition too is sharpening its arsenal to corner his government on various burning issues that dominate political horizons.
There are already indications that Opposition would like to effectively attack issues concerning Nithari killings, cases of missing children at other places and rape of two girls in a madarsa in Allahabad.
By submitting memorandums to Governor TV Rajeswar the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress have already made intentions clear. The Bharatiya Janata Party too would not leave any opportunity to embarrass Mulayam government. The Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal have withdrawn their support to Mulayam government. Two parties would obviously like to justify their role in opposition. The Congress has also moved an amendment to Motion of Thanks.
As this would be the last session of the House the two sides would use the occasion to warm up for forthcoming Vidhan Sabha polls. If there would be moments of discord there would also be occasion for bonhomie as the legislatures bid farewell to each other. The Vidhan Sabha secretariat has already planned a photo session in afternoon. So, House may not be able to conduct any business in the post lunch hours.
