The Himachal Pradesh government is spending a sum of Rs 9 crore for the growth of medicinal plants and herbs in the state during the current financial year in order to make the state a herbal state.
This was stated by chief parliamentary secretary, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal while inaugurating the medicinal plant project of the department of science technology, ayurveda and environment at Bijher village of the district on Monday.
Lakhanpal said there was a wide scope for the growth of such plants in the state as the climate of the state was well suited for herbs and medicinal plants. He said the new project would help the farmers of the state to become self sufficient as the government would provide them all sorts of assistance for the growth of plants.
Under the project that was started in Bijheri on Monday, eight development blocks of the state had been selected and farmers under the BPL category would be provided with plants on 80% subsidy and rest of the farmers on 20% subsidy.
In all, 3,668 selected farmers of the state would be provided with 9,23,000 medicinal plants to grow in their fields during the current fiscal year.
