AS MANY AS 2200 yatris from different parts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh registered themselves for this years Amarnath Yatra, official sources said here on Monday.
The suspension of yatra following inclement weather on way to holy cave shrine has not dampened the spirit of the yatris whose number for registration swelled.
The nationwide registration of Amarnath Yatris, which started on May 25, will continue up to June 15. Though till Saturday about 2000 yatris got themselves registered in Varansi branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, more than 200 yatris got themselves registered in the early hours of Monday.
“Despite the suspension of yatra due to inclement weather, the yatris did not lack interest,” RK Talwar, general manager J and K Bank, Varanasi, told Hindustan Times.
The yatris are asked to pay Rs 10 for registration and Rs 22 for life insurance cover during the yatra. However, yatris avoid getting insurance cover due to unstated reasons, Talwar said.
Helicopter service, introduced by the authorities last year, also remained suspended for the second day due to bad weather.
