"It (Cabinet) expressed that the UN should act immediately to stop the (Iraq) conflict and also to alleviate the humanitarian suffering," Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

He said the Cabinet expressed concern about the plight of ordinary Iraqis.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has opposed the war, saying that it lacked justification, but Opposition leaders have called for a stronger reaction from the government.
