She was responding to a question from reporters in Chennai on US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burn's remarks that his country had the right to ask for return of nuclear fuel and nuclear technology if India conducts a nuclear test.

"It is my firm view that the Indo-US nuclear deal is unnecessary and is detrimental to the interests of the country. It will be good for the country if the deal is called off. India does not need a nuclear deal at all," she said.

To a query, she said AIADMK MPs would definitely vote for the UNPA candidate in the Vice-Presidential elections. "My party is part of the UNPA," she said.

Coming down heavily on the police firing in Khammam, Andhra Pradesh, yesterday in which six people were killed, she said a warning should have been given before police opened fire.

"It did not appear as if a warning was given. No teargas was used. Without using options which would prevent loss of lives and without warning, police opened fire. It is a condemnable act", she said.

The date for AIADMK's protest against Tata Group's project in Sattankulam would be announced later, she added.
