House number E-71 in Shyam Vihar, home of Lt. Com. Kapish Muwal, one of the two ill-fated officers killed onboard INS Sindhuratna in Mumbai on Wednesday, is buried in gloom.

Son of Ishwar Singh, a retired Navy officer, Kapish had come home for his birthday on January 19.

“He was at home a month back for his birthday and left to join duty on the 26th. Didn’t imagine he will never come back,” Budhram, his uncle said.

“There are no words to describe the feeling of loss. My sister-in-law (Kapish’s mother) is devastated ever since the news came,” he said.

Kapish’s father and brother Manish have gone to Mumbai to bring back his body. He is survived by another kin Ashish, who works in a Gurgaon firm.

Omprakash Sehrawat, a family friend who came down from Hissar after hearing the news, said the family was now waiting for the body.

Many of Kapish’s friends, who came to visit his family, stood in silence. “Can’t believe he won’t come back,” one of them said.
