"The national highway was blocked in the wee hours near Khooni nullah in Ramban district," senior superintendent of police (SSP) (traffic) Haseeb Mughal said.

The officer said Border Road Organisation (BRO) was pressed into service to clear the debris and the road was unclogged by 12 pm.

He said soon after the landslide Jammu and Srinagar traffic units were informed and traffic was stopped at several places on the highway to avoid snarls.

"Hundreds of people, including pilgrims of Amarnath, got stranded for over six hours," Mughal said.
