Japan has already provided US$172,900 worth of tents, water tanks and electrical generators for people displaced by the floods, the embassy said in a statement.

Flash floods and landslides last month killed 266 people and left about 350,000 people homeless in southern Sri Lanka.

Japan is the country's largest foreign donor, providing about US$300 million each year.

It has pledged US$1 billion to help reconstruct war-ravaged areas of the country at an international donor conference being held in Tokyo.
