"Well, now you understand why Sibal has been put in the Telecom Ministry. After the exposure of this biggest scandal, there is this minister who is trying to whitewash the whole crime," he said.

Responding to reporters' queries on Sibal's remarks that the CAG estimates of losses of Rs 1.76 lakh crore on 2G spectrum allocation "had no basis and was utterly erroneous," Karat said he was sure that the people of this country would "not buy all these false arguments".

To a query on Opposition's demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the spectrum allocation scam, Karat said his party is sticking to its demand for a JPC probe, but added, "What we what will do in the budget session, we will discuss (later)."
