"Rather than taking tangible steps to rush relief to thousands of hapless Tamils in Sri Lanka, Congress and DMK are indulging in political theatrics," BJP spokesperson Balbir Punj said.

He said this was merely a 'political stunt' and instead the Indian government should ensure the safety of the Tamil civilians who are trapped in the conflict zone.

Karunanidhi took an indefinite fast demanding ceasefire in Sri Lanka in the morning but called it off after six hours once the Island government announced that combat operations have concluded.
