Madhya Pradesh consumes 36 lakh units more power this Diwali

MP Power Management Company supplied 36 lakh units more power in comparison to 2013 on Diwali to meet the higher demand for electricity this year. MP received 2,306 MW power from its own thermal power generation units and 445 MW from its hydel units.

The state-run MP Power Management Company supplied 36 lakh units more power in comparison to 2013 on Diwali to meet the higher demand for electricity this year.

The company officials said that 1,771 lakh units of power was supplied against 1,735 lakh units supplied on Diwali in 2013. Madhya Pradesh received 2,306 megawatt (MW) power from its own thermal power generation units and 445 MW from its hydel units.

MP received 495 MW from the hydel units of Indira Sagar, 203 MW from the Omkareshwar dam project and 56 MW from the Sardar Sarovar hydel stations. The state received over 2,300 MW from central sector, over 300 MW from DVC and 183 MW from central sector's Badarpur thermal power plant.

Besides, private sector companies such as Bina, Nigri, BLA, Amarkantak and Torrent supplied more than 1,600 MW to the state. Remaining sources pitched in with 50 MW power.

On Dhanteras, 1,759 lakh units of power was supplied, which was also higher than the demand on Dhanteras last year.

Energy minister Rajendra Shukla congratulated the power company officials and employees in MP for keeping an eye on the power situation and meeting the higher demand for electricity on Diwali, an official release stated.
