As a move towards forming a grand anti-CPI (M) alliance Defence minister Pranab Mukherjee and Trinamool Congress chief Manata Banerjee on Saturday night held parleys with the former saying that he would come out with a response after talking to the party high command.

Emerging from his meeting with the TC chief, Mukherjee also WBPCC president said the issue would be discussed at the Pradesh Congress executive meeting on January 7. After that he would talk to the party high command on this matter.

Trinamool Congress chief Manata Banerjee said she would be happy if the opposition alliance could put up a one-to-one fight against the CPI-M by forming a "grand opposition alliance".

She, however, refused to say anything whether BJP's presence in the proposed alliance would be an irritant for the Congress.

The meeting assumes significance since it was being held in the backdrop of Mukherjee's repeated assertion that Congress could not be a part of any alliance having BJP, of which the Trinamool Congress is an ally, as a constituent.
