Maya Kodnani granted bail in Gujarat riots case

A local court in Ahmedabad today granted bail to former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani, who has been charged with abetting mobs in the Naroda Gam and Naroda Patia localities of Ahmedabad during the 2002 riots in the state.

A local court on Tuesday granted bail to former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani, who has been charged with abetting mobs in the Naroda Gam and Naroda Patia localities of Ahmedabad during the 2002 riots in the state.

Mitesh Amin, counsel for the former women's welfare and higher education minister, told IANS that the Ahmedabad city sessions court has granted bail to Kodnani in the Naroda Gam case while in the Naroda Patia case, the bail hearing would continue.

Kodnani had moved her bail application in April.

Kodnani has been booked by the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team for abetting violence after the post-Godhra train burning, in which 59 people were burnt alive in S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express on Feb 27, 2002.
