The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP’s) chief Mayawati has decided to woo voters through a rally in the only reserved constituency of Delhi on Monday — North West.
During the assembly elections in Delhi, Mayawati had addressed eight rallies in the Capital but for the Lok Sabha elections, only one rally has been planned for the BSP supremo. All the seven candidates have been asked to bring supporters from their constituency and attend the rally with them.
“She have to visit other parts of the country too, so we have to make arrangements for one rally only.
Since North West is a reserved constituency, the rally will be held at Indra Park in Sultanpuri on Monday 5 pm,” said ML Tomar, Delhi BSP president. The party was also considering East and North East parliamentary constituency as a probable venue for the rally since these seats have a significant population of the Muslims.
The party is contesting on all the seven seats in Delhi. It is hoping to do particularly well in East and North East constituencies as it has a sizeable population of Muslim and Dalit voters. People from Seelampur, Babarpur, Jamia, Okhla, Laxmi Nagar and Jafrabad have been asked to come and participate in the rally.
“It doesn’t matter where Mayawatiji will address the rally, as the crowd will go anywhere to listen to her. I have spent my childhood in Sultanpuri and I am sure people will go to attend the rally,” said Shakeel Saifi, member of BSP’s national executive committee.

BSP was the third largest party in Delhi during 2008 assembly election with a 14.05% vote share. But in this assembly election, despite Mayawati rallies, the party’s vote share dipped significantly.
Most of its voters turned to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In 2008, BSP’s candidate had an impact in outer Delhi’s areas such as Narela, Bawana and Mangolpuri.
“A rally by party chief will boost the confidence of the candidates,” said Solomon George, party’s candidate from New Delhi constituency.
