"We have to use our personal phone number as we are yet to get the official number. It has been affecting us. There should be an official number, for when a person is on leave, the in-charge officer can use that number," said a police official who doesn't want to be named because the person is not authorised to speak to the media.

"The personal number can't be transferred to anybody. Also, without our own vehicle, we have to hire an autorickshaw or use other means of public transport during emergency," said the official.

A senior police official said few officers were not allocated official mobile connections as the police department had decided to change the operator. The official said the process will take some days and the Metro station police will get the numbers. The vehicle problem will be sorted out soon as the station was inaugurated just recently - last Friday.

Vodafone mobile phone numbers given to senior police officials are being shifted to Airtel through number portability.
