Minor dies, another woman battles for life for turning down marriage proposals

Turning down marriage proposals proved fatal for a minor girl in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district while another woman was allegedly attacked by her angry boyfriend in Ranchi for refusing to marry him, police said on Friday.

Turning down marriage proposal proved fatal for a minor girl in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district while another woman was allegedly attacked by her angry boyfriend in Ranchi for refusing to marry him, police said on Friday.

On Thursday night, a 16-year-old girl died after being thrown off a moving train by her boyfriend, while a 23-year-old woman’s face was slashed by her angry boyfriend after she turned down his marriage proposal. Both the accused are on the run, police said.

Police recovered the body of the minor girl, who they suspect was thrown off a moving train,in Sahibganj district, around 360km north of Ranchi.

The girl’s family members alleged that she was kidnapped by Vikas, her boyfriend and an associate, both of whom belonged to the same village.

They said that Vikas had barged into the house when the girl was alone and abducted her.

According to police, the couple, along with another person, boarded the Malda-Sahibganj Intercity Express from the Sahibganj station at 8.15 pm.

The girl's body was recovered by police in the outer area of the railway station, said Sahibganj superintendent of police AV Minz.

"A boy was accompanying the couple. Both the boys are on the run. The boy's family has alleged that the girl had eloped. We are probing the case,” he said.
